Bronchiectasis doesn’t often make headlines, but for pulmonologists and frontline clinicians managing its complications, it’s anything but rare. Misdiagnosed and misunderstood, it’s a condition that demands sharp clinical awareness and early intervention. To achieve this, our team at The France Foundation (TFF) developed “Bronchiectasis Update: Diagnostic Innovations and Therapeutic Frontiers”–a robust educational initiative that equips pulmonologists and multidisciplinary clinicians with the knowledge and confidence to diagnose and manage this complex condition.
Bringing Clarity to Complexity for Clinicians
Bronchiectasis is no longer seen as a linear disease, but an amalgamation of inflammation, infection, and structural damage. This complexity can make it difficult for clinicians to identify and manage patients, especially when symptoms overlap with those of asthma or COPD. However, if left untreated, it has an immense negative impact on patients’ quality of life. Bronchiectasis Update meets these challenges head-on, translating cutting-edge research into practical insights to bring timely, clinically relevant education to providers at the point of need.
This program brings learners into real-world patient scenarios, challenging them to:
- Understand the underlying pathophysiology, especially the role of neutrophilic inflammation and serine proteases
- Improve diagnostic accuracy by differentiating bronchiectasis from asthma and COPD using clinical clues and imaging
- Recognize the significance of pulmonary exacerbations
- Take action early to prevent long-term damage
Novel therapies targeting neutrophilic inflammation and emerging clinical trial data are poised to change the treatment landscape. On August 12, 2025, the FDA approved brensocatib for the treatment of Non-Cystic Fibrosis Bronchiectasis. Brensocatib is a first-in-class DPP1 inhibitor targeting neutrophilic inflammation. As bronchiectasis continues to emerge as a key focus in pulmonary medicine, we strive to provide education that clinicians can apply to their own practices effectively and promptly.
Our bronchiectasis initiatives have reached thousands of clinicians over the years and we’re not slowing down; when they’re able to decode bronchiectasis, they diagnose faster, intervene smarter, and ultimately improve patients’ quality of life.
