The France Foundation (TFF), in collaboration with the International Society on Thrombosis and Haemostasis (ISTH), introduced an interactive educational kiosk and a new approach to learning about emerging Factor XI/XIa (FXI/XIa) inhibitors. Combining scientific animations, expert discussions, patient-centered infographics, and interactive challenges, the kiosk gave attendees of the ISTH 2026 Congress the freedom to explore complex clinical topics relevant to their own specialties at their own pace. As part of a multiyear educational initiative on FXI/XIa inhibitors, the experience demonstrates how strategic educational design can make emerging science more accessible, engaging, and relevant to clinicians across the world.
Making Complex Science Accessible Through Interactive Education
Factor XI/XIa inhibition represents a promising area of investigation in anticoagulation, with the potential to address unmet needs associated with existing therapies, particularly bleeding risk. Rather than presenting this information through a single educational format, TFF and ISTH developed a centralized learning experience organized around four phases for engagement: Learn, Test Your Knowledge, Shape the Future, and Stay Connected.
Within Learn, attendees could explore short animations illustrating the mechanisms behind different FXI/XIa inhibitor approaches, watch expert-led discussions of clinical trial findings, or examine detailed patient-centered infographics. These resources addressed distinct learning needs, from understanding the underlying science to considering the challenges of anticoagulation in cancer-associated thrombosis, secondary stroke prevention, and atrial fibrillation.
Specialty-focused discussions helped clinicians identify content relevant to their practice, while captioned videos, automatic playback, and flexible navigation allowed attendees to engage with the material according to their interests and available time.
Encouraging Participation Beyond Content Consumption
The kiosk also created opportunities for attendees to actively engage with what they learned.
Through Test Your Knowledge, clinicians could participate in a timed, five-question challenge featuring immediate answer feedback. Shape the Future invited clinicians to share their perspectives on unresolved questions surrounding FXI/XIa inhibition through a brief questionnaire.
Together, these features encourage knowledge reinforcement while creating opportunities to better understand clinician perspectives in an evolving therapeutic area.
Finally, Stay Connected offered attendees a pathway to receive ISTH Academy updates and additional educational resources, supporting opportunities for engagement beyond the initial Congress experience.
Bringing Educational Innovation to Life
Developing the kiosk required bringing together multiple educational formats within a single, intuitive experience. From scientific animations and faculty discussions to patient cases and interactive assessments, each component was designed to serve a distinct educational purpose while remaining accessible through a shared interface.
Senior eLearning Specialist Josh Garlick, who helped develop the kiosk, reflected on the experience.
“On a busy conference floor, you have seconds to earn someone’s attention. We built every element of the kiosk to draw people in quickly, then invite them to go deeper, Garlick explained. “For example, learners could test their knowledge or express their opinions and instantly see how their responses compared with those of their peers at ISTH 2026, thanks to real-time data. Learning moments like these can turn a few taps on a touchscreen into real engagement with the science.”
For TFF, the project represents an opportunity to showcase the creativity, technical expertise, and collaboration required to translate educational strategy into an engaging learning experience.
As the science surrounding FXI/XIa inhibition continues to evolve, so too must the ways clinicians engage with emerging evidence. Through its ongoing collaboration with ISTH, TFF is demonstrating how innovative educational design can help bridge the gap between scientific discovery and clinical understanding, one learner-centered experience at a time.
