LEARNING OBJECTIVES

Upon completion of the activity, participants should be able to:

  • Identify the negative impact of persistent pain on health and quality of life, current methods to assess pain levels, appropriate use of opioid medications, and documentation required for compliance with regulatory policies
  • Integrate appropriate risk assessment strategies for patient abuse, misuse, and diversion among opioid therapies into an overall management approach for acute and chronic pain
  • Describe the specific elements of new abuse deterrent technologies associated with opioid therapy and assess their implications for clinical practice

TARGET AUDIENCE

This activity is intended for health care professionals who have a direct role in the management of acute and/or chronic pain, including Rheumatologists, Neurologists/Neurosurgeons, Urologists, Oncologists, General Surgeons, Orthopedic Surgeons, Emergency Medicine Specialists, Internists/Family Physicians, OB/GYNs, Anesthesiologists, and Pain Management Physicians.

STATEMENT OF NEED

This activity has been planned in accordance with the need to provide health care professionals with an interactive continuing medical education activity that addresses the benefits and risks of opioid therapy, assessment strategies, abuse deterrent technologies (ADTs), and required documentation for compliance of regulatory policies in order to address challenges related to the increase in prescription drug abuse and the undertreatment of pain.

The France Foundation is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education to provide continuing medical education for physicians.
