Needs Statement/Target Audience

This activity has been planned in accordance with the need to provide psychiatrists and other clinicians who provide care for patients with schizophrenia with a collaborative environment to better understand issues in schizophrenia management including research updates.

Educational Activity Learning Objectives

Upon completion of this activity, the participants should be able to:

  • Identify characteristics for early diagnosis of schizophrenia including potential usable biomarkers in the clinical setting and discuss appropriate goals for first episode treatment
  • Review antipsychotic pharmacology and the application to clinical practice
  • Recognize the local resources and programs available for peer support
  • Describe the latest evidence on the efficacy and effectiveness of acute and maintenance antipsychotic therapy
  • Describe how to improve tolerability of medications and implement useful strategies for intervention
  • Describe the concept and process of recovery in schizophrenia
