Needs Statement/Target Audience
This activity is intended to enable internists to formulate individualized, appropriate treatment approaches for their patients with osteoarthritis that maximize pain relief and quality of life while minimizing adverse effects.
Educational Activity Learning Objectives
Upon completion of this activity, the participants should be able to:
- Identify the role of NSAIDs in the treatment of osteoarthritis and review risk/ benefit profiles for drugs in this class
- Describe the guideline recommendations for gastroprotection in the management of patients with osteoarthritis who are treated with NSAIDs
- Formulate individualized strategies for patients with osteoarthritis requiring NSAIDs which minimize cardiovascular and gastrointestinal risk
