EDUCATIONAL NEED
Asthma represents a significant health risk and public health burden in the United States. Recent estimates show that 10% of the US population has had a diagnosis of asthma during their lifetime with almost 7% currently having asthma. Each year, an estimated 1.81 million people require treatment in an emergency department because of asthma, accounting for more hospitalizations than any other chronic illness. The cost of illness related to asthma is estimated to be around 14 billion dollars. Consequently, new strategies and therapeutic options have been recently developed to optimize treatment and overall control of asthma.
